For doodles, poodles and similar
Doodle and curly coat grooming in Houston, priced out.
Goldendoodles, labradoodles and poodles have hair that grows without a break and tangles close to the skin. In Houston's thick, damp air, those tangles form faster, so the coat needs a groomer who knows how to handle it.
What drives the cost of a curly coat.
These coats cost more than smooth ones because every step takes longer and relies on more skill.
- Thorough combing before the bath is required, and it eats up a lot of time.
- Scissor shaping on the face, ears, legs and tail is slower than running a clipper over the body.
- Matted coats are the main reason bills jump, and a severe case may call for a short clip.
- Visits every four to six weeks usually cost less across a year than long gaps followed by repair work.
- A mini doodle and a standard doodle are priced very differently, so give your dog's weight.
- A slicker brush and metal comb used at home several times a week protect both the coat and your budget.

What does a goldendoodle groom cost in Houston?
Most doodle grooms land between about $85 and $180. A large doodle with tangles sits at the top end.
How often does a doodle need grooming in Houston?
Every four to six weeks is typical. Going longer in humid months tends to let mats take hold.
Why do groomers sometimes clip matted dogs short?
Tight mats tug at the skin and can be painful to pull apart. A short clip is often the kindest option, and the groomer will talk it through.
Should I choose a shorter cut for summer?
Many Houston owners do. A shorter length dries quicker after bath time and is easier to keep brushed in muggy weather.
